Raspberry Kids

Let’s face it Mommies, it is tough having to take the kids out on shopping trips ~ tougher still when the shopping to be done is for those little darlings, who would rather be doing anything but shopping! Do we really want to fill them up on jelly beans so mommy can have 5 more minutes to browse? Or buy yet another dinky car to keep the peace as you line up to pay? Well, The Family Book has discovered another great online store that will solve your shopping dilemma!

Raspberry Kids tagline is “fresh, healthy & fun” and the resulting line of baby & children’s products they have created fits it to a “T”. You are going to find a beautiful and whimsical selection of high quality, interesting & unique items, many made of wood, organic materials, and safe and/or recycled plastics. Better still, they are a Canadian company, located in Vancouver, BC, which makes ordering in Canada quick, easy and “duty free”!

I received a bath toy by boon called Splat, just a day or two after ordering. They make great “safe” (BPA free, Phthalate free and PVC free ~ hooray!) toys for the bath, including a great water faucet cover (called “Flo”) which makes a cool waterfall and protects small heads from unpleasant faucet-bumps (also available at raspberry kids!). This particular toy is from boon’s new line of bath toys. Splat is a floating ring toss game that is perfect for bathtub or water table fun! Like all boon products, the colours and design are bright, fun and visually interesting. Three colourful, easy to grip rings can be tossed onto the blue holder, which looks like a huge raindrop splat, hence the name I’m sure! It is for children 9+months, but my 5 year old is having lots of fun with it and I’m sure Splat will be making its way out to the swimming pool this summer!

Be sure to take advantage of the Wish List feature they offer. What a great way to help out all those adoring grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends in their quest for the perfect gift!
And for those of you with a wish list, you may be interested in hosting an E-party. Raspberry Kids is now offering a virtual shopping party opportunity for you and at least 15 friends or family. You can select discounts of 15% or 20% for all of your guests, as well as hostess benefits, gifts and more!

Visit raspberry kids at their website www.rasberrykids.com and be sure to use your coupon from The Family Book (coupon #183 15% off any regular priced purchase).

Go to www.raspberrykids.com and sign up for The Raspberry Patch Newsletter for a chance to win great prizes!

Po Po's Ponchos

Po-Po's Ponchos

Necessity is the mother of invention they say. And this month The Family Book would like to highlight another great example of how a Mom looking after her little one came up with a great design idea to help solve those Mommy challenges that we all face every day!

In the case of Po Po's Ponchos, we are talking about the daily challenge of getting your darling little one dressed for outside. We can all relate to the struggle to get little arms into jackets, especially when they don't want to cooperate! Then you have to face the struggle to securely do up the car seat or stroller with that impossibly puffy jacket! These darling little ponchos turn this struggle into a non-issue - with a simple slip over the head and the doing up of three small snaps (one under each arm and one at the neck) your little one is ready to go without all the fuss some mornings can bring!

These stylish ponchos are created out of an amazingly soft micro fleece (think your softest, cuddliest, warmest hoodie ~ now think softer, cuddlier and warmer!). The non-pilling fleece is matched with delightful 100% cotton fabric trim designs that lines the hood, pocket, edging.

Po Po's Ponchos is an all Canadian company; located, designed and produced in Vancouver, BC. Their product line continues to expand, introducing wonderful new colour combinations and a new, fully reversible version that is sure to be doubly delightful!

Available in three sizes, fitting children 0 - 6 years old ~ if you have a fashionable little girl in your life check out all the fabulous colour combinations at Po Po's Ponchos website www.poposponchos.com and don't forget to use your Family Book coupon (coupon # 181, $10 off online purchase)!

Go to www.poposponchos.com and fill out their 2 min. survey for a chance to win a poncho of your choice!

Organically Hatched Valentine's Day

The requests on the lips of moms this Valentines has changed from previous years of hinting for perfume, chocolates, lotions, and scented candles. What a drastic change a year brings as parents have learned to safe guard their children and family by reading ingredient labels and staying away from traditional products containing chemicals. We now ask questions about personal care products and food/drink utensils to find out if they’re BPA-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and fragrance-free. We are seeking a more organic existence with buying non-toxic, safe, natural, products we can trust. Organically Hatched is speaking the words for parents as their store is brimming with amazing organic and-natural product lines, allowing parents easy access to a new way of gift giving this Valentines Day.

Organically Hatched is making things easy with their Valentine’s Day Gift Box that can be selected with items you purchase online. Your gifts will be packaged in this box before mailing, complete with a personalized card and love. With moms replacing traditional personal care and household products with all-natural based products, there is no better way to show your family you care than selecting a few special items to present to your family this Valentines Day. There is something for mom, dad, and the kids, and the Organically Hatched Valentines category is easy to navigate and explore through the store’s selections. I’ve been able to sample a few products and think they would be very special items for the entire family this Valentine’s Day.

Mom and Dad – check out the locally based product line from All Things Jill. I love being able to support this Alberta based company and their amazing products. Their lip smackin chap sticks come in wonderful flavors and are a must have, great price-point ($4.49 each), and even safe to dap on your child’s lips. Organically Hatched carries many items from All Things Jill and they are sure to please any mom with their lineup of all natural foot butter, body butter, hand salve, and massage oil because nobody said ‘all natural’ couldn’t be romantic! And for dad, we’ve tried all natural aftershave spritz from All Things Jill and my very non-organic hubby has been enjoying this product. We’ve replaced our hand soap with their lovely grapefruit and ginger hand & body wash, and are fans of these other practical items for dad: body wash, all natural aching body muscle rub, and shaving cream!

Now to the really fun stuff – a sustainable goodie or gift for that special little girl or boy to include in your gift box: Egyptian cotton fruit toy for baby, a Green Toys tea set – nothing like make-believe tea parties in the tub without worrying about phthalates, or small woody click toys to encourage imagination and building. Or stick with the personal care products and purchase practical items like lip balms and natural shampoo to make your little boy or girl feel just like mom and dad!

So why not try a more natural, organic, and sustainable approach to gift giving this Valentines. Your family will appreciate the thought behind your all natural selections and Organically Hatched is making it easy – one little peep at a time!

COLD WATER

I drew the bath at 10pm, thinking I was going to lay and relax in my bubble bath, as it's been a long week so far, and as I was waiting for the water to fill up, I realized the bathroom was filthy. I probably hadn't cleaned it in 2, maybe 3 weeks! How disgusting. There has been so much going on in my household, little things are constantly being put on the wayside. So, the clock just clanged 11 dings and I'm finally finished from floor to ceiling (ok, I didn't actually wash the ceiling), but I did everything else.

In today's day and age, I feel like I have so many expectations put on me. Why is this? Can we ever go back to "the way it was"? Do we want to? Probably not, but I do know what I'm really seeking right now in my life is balance. Balancing work, kids, family, life, friends, household, and the list goes on is my constant challenge. One week I feel like I got it, the next I'm in tears because it's witching hour with the kids (usually 4pm) and nothing is cooked for dinner.

I definitely need to sit down and figure it out, I just have to find the time. A few things the experts would probably pat me on the back for doing are 1)I've started meeting up with some other Moms and scrapbooking on a couple Friday nights a month and 2) my husband and I are starting to talk about taking a date night again once a month at least. It's a start.

Coupon #61 (Baby Steps Life Coaching) in Tiny Tots offers one free hour of self care and career/relationship stress. Now don't get me wrong, my intention on writing this article was not to promote the book, it just came to me at the end:-)

On that note, I'm really going to take that bath now, hopefully the water isn't too cold:-)

VANCOUVER BABY & FAMILY FAIR

Well our first trade show was a success! We sold lots of books, discovered things about our demographics, met new friends and contacts and networked like crazy. It was like teaching for both of us, having to be "on stage" for 2 full days. Our husbands took care of the kids, which was great! They were sure tired too:-) Mmmm, what taking care of kids is tiring? That's strange:-)

We've been invited to join a group of women in the MINDS group, our first meeting is tomorrow night. We're really looking forward to it.

It seems people, in general, are very excited for us. Having said that, I'm excited too, but I'm really looking forward to my pillow...

Spilt Milk Twice In 1 Day!!

I really do think my brain is thinking faster then my actions. Twice today I knew my kids' milk was right next to me and twice today, I spilt milk! I can't seem to keep a straight thought between my family and home balance, the Tiny Tots Coupon Book, the house renovations, getting organized, and blah, blah, blah... And why is my 15 mth old still up when his bedtime was 12 minutes ago?

Anyways, life lately has been a bit crazy with balancing the kids, the husband, the business, but soon hopefully things will balance themselves out. Who am I kiddding?? The coupon book will be ready to pick up on Wednesday, and then it's distribution time! We have gotten a ton of hits on our website (www.tinytotscouponbook.com) and lots of people have entered the contest, signed up for the news, given us feedback, and left us nice notes. It's been really fun and it feels like soon it will pay off.

One thing I'm missing are my friends right now. I hope the moms can get together soon because they really are a big part of my network:-) I have been spending a lot of time with the husband and family, so that's satisfying.

On that note, I must get the 15mth to bed, the 3 1/2 yr old's teeth brushed, read the books, say the prayers, get him to bed, and then work, work, work...

Thanks for all the support! Check out the new website if you get a chance!

I'm back:-)

Well, it's been a long haul. Selling the coupon space, setting up distribution, doing the accounting, promotions, advertising, the list goes on! My partner and I are tired...But it's not over yet. The final touches are going on this weekend and it's going to print! I'm so excited, I can hardly wait to see it for real. I have had a ton of support from those around me, so if you're thinking of starting your own business, here are some tips:

1) write a business plan
2) stay on course
3) expect you will work harder then you ever have before
4) balance your life with family, work, love, friendships...you get the point
5) laugh
6) do your homework
7) expect challenges and face them
8) be positive, but realistic
9) be patient
10) shoot for the stars

The Tiny Tots Coupon Book will be making its debut September, so to reserve your copy, go to www.tinytotscouponbook.com!

Starting Your Own Business

Well it's been about 2 months that I've had my new business going and it is a lot of work! Working at home is a lot more time consuming than going to work, that's for sure. But I am able to spend time with my kids and still balance most things out:-) I am, it seems eternally tired, but I've had a ton of support from most of my family and friends, thank goodness...I have not been able to put in as much time to this site though, but I'm hoping to link it up with my website in the near future, so be patient:-)

If you haven't had a chance to go to www.tinytotscoupons.blogspot.com and see what my new business is all about, than do so. The website should be up and running within the next month or so.

A Moment's Peace

Sometimes when it's silent, you know it's that awkward silence? But sometimes, silence is soooo peaceful. One son is at preschool and the other is sleeping. I finally have a moment's peace. Of course I don't mean it's not peaceful around here, come on, with 2 boys, a talkative teacher for a husband, 2 exchange students, renos, gardening, and on and on and on....there's little quiet time.

I think I may actually take a break and read the magazine I bought 2 weeks ago, I really do wish Starbucks delivered...

Also, to let everyone know, the Tiny Tots Coupon Book is going really well! It's very tough managing kids, working at home, and life in general, but it's all very exciting!

Everyone, have a great long weekend! Next week's reviews include a cool DVD, and a great comfy sleeper.

MAY HAS FINALLY COME...

I can't believe time goes so fast, my littliest one is going to be 1 years old at the end of the month, my oldest son did the "wave goodbye and see you Mommy" and took off to play at preschool this week, and twice this week, my husband and I sat down and hung out. Now that's something that rarely happens. We've been watching this DVD a friend lent us (The Secret) - if you've heard of it, you're probably smiling right now. Basically, it's a DVD with a bunch of famous people discussing the secret of life and in 4 words, the secret is The Law of Attraction. The idea that thoughts are things and thinking positive and being positive and living positive will all bring positive results. Anyways, not a new secret of course, but one that gets lost on many of us with our "busy" lives. So, on that note, try to watch it if you can, I'm off to go "hang out" with my husband. Oh, but wait, the phone...just kiding:-) Have a great weekend!

MANAGING...

Well, it's come to my immediate attention the biggest obstacle we, as parents face, is managing. That is, managing time, money, strength, love, friendships, children, the house work, the garden, the car maintenance, oh the list goes on...It seems there are many solutions out there to this whole management idea, but it also seems you have to find one that works for you personally. So, if you have a great management idea, please post it on the site and share it with the community, because we all need a little managing...

SPORTS? OR NO SPORTS?

Am I trying to force my 3 year to play organized sports? What's wrong with me I wonder? My 3 yr old started LaCrosse today, me thinking it would be really fun. Him, thinking the world was coming to an end when he found out he had to put a helmet on and now all of a sudden Mr. Sing out loud so everyone can hear me, says he shy?? What the?? Anyways, we stuck it out, he put the helmet on for about 10 minutes, humored me with picking up the stick and shuffling the ball around and would not have anything to do with any of the teachers or the other 9 kids there. I'm taking a stand, we're going to tough it out for the next 4 weeks, I feel like if I don't, he'll have won. Won what though I wonder? Some Mommy power struggle or am I sublimally teaching him he can't give up? Where is the manual for kids? Has someone written it yet? Anyways, let me know where one can buy a kids' lacrosse stick and please leave feedback if you have any...

STONZ BOOTIES - Product Review

My son loves them! He's only 10mths and wears them outside all the time. They are easy to clean when he's crawling around in the dirt. They are perfect for the little ones. I especially like them because no air gets in between the shoe and the pant leg, which always drives me crazy...They also have a fleece-lined inside for warmth and comfort, they are water and wind resistance for those stroller rides or playing outside and with the adjustable toggles, they actually stay on!

There are tons of styles to choose from. Check out Stonz Booties and order a pair today!

NOT TOILET PAPER??!!

I received this from my girlfriend today who is 7 1/2 mths pregnant! Thought it was a great one to publish.
So thought I’d share my “wonderful” (sarcasm) morning with my fellow moms.

First let me give you some filler, so you can get the full picture. So my sister-in-law from Whitehorse has been down for 8 days now and hasn’t called and phones last night at 9pm wanting to get together tonight. We didn’t answer last night, so she phones at 6:55am this morning while I was in a dead of sleep (some of you know I haven’t been sleeping well, so the wake up call was a shock to my system). I was so out of it I couldn’t even talk to her. So then I’m up and can’t fall back a sleep. Claire wakes up and she is in an OK mood, still battling a little cough, so I decide, despite the fact I feel like... click to continue NOT TOILET PAPER

After the third day of dropping off my 3 year to preschool, it's getting a bit easier - on both of us. He didn't "apparently" cry today and I was able to enjoy a nice cup of coffee with another Mom friend for an hour while my little wee one slept in her son's crib. All that in just the morning. I didn't realize... Click here to finish reading PRESCHOOL
